10 Weeks

Austin thought he would blow kisses to everyone today. This afternoon, Austin moved across the hall to the what is called the "step down II." He is currently scheduled for his transfer to TIC on Tuesday which we are looking forward to. This will enable Gina to establish nursing with Austin for the majority of his feedings by staying overnight when possible. It will also allow us to visit Austin as a family over the next few weeks. Below is a link to TIC if you would like to learn more.

Austin is right on track with his weight gain. At this stage, the doctors would like to see him gain about an ounce a day. He now weighs 3 pounds, 5 ounces. So big compared to his birth weight, yet still so tiny.

  • One of the advantages of having a preemie is that you get a very extended babyhood. There will come a day when you realize he's outgrown the newborn size clothes. And what a milestone that is!

At an ounce a day, it's about two weeks to gain a pound. I know it's probably too far to look ahead for you, but the special day is coming.

At 14 weeks, he'll probably be tipping the scales at 5 pounds. That's take-home size.
